Handmade Extra Thick Leather Belts
Extra thick belts
The photo above left shows the edges of two belts, dyed black, with a waxed dye to hold down any loose fibres.
The inner belt is one of our standard belts, approx. 2.7mm to 3mm thick. A good strong belt giving many years of use.
The outer belt is 4.5mm to 5mm thick. This is our latest line, if the leather was any thicker you could put it on the barbeque and have it with chips. This is a belt you can wear all your life and leave it to your kids when you pop your clogs.
There’s a choice of solid brass, nickel over solid brass or nickel and brass coloured buckles. These belts carry a lifetime guarantee.

So, what colour? We use spirit based, penetrating dyes for all our belts. These give deep rich colours that really glow but, don’t hide vein marks or wrinkles. Waterbased dyes look flat and lifeless and spray painted leather looks like plastic and is used to cover inferior, cheap leathers (click About Leather).Look carefully at belts in different shops, you’ll see the difference. Although the next thing you see will be the six different colours we offer, you won’t be asked to make a choice until later.

After dyeing, the belt edges are bevelled, and then dyed black with a wax impregnated dye that stops edge fibres lifting. This ensures that the belt always looks neat and well finished on its outer edges.
The final treatments before buckles are fitted include a light coat of neatsfoot oil to keep the belt reasonably supple and a coat of dubbin, well rubbed in to protect and waterproof.
At last, your final choice. You have to take a measurement to determine what length your new belt will be. Whether your old belt is a bit too long, or a bit too short, take a measurement from the tip of the buckle to the hole that you are using now. This measurement lets me calculate the correct length of the new belt, that is to say, that when you wear your new belt you should be using the centre hole of 5 holes.(as diagram below). You can take this measurements in cm or inches as you will be typing this figure in later. Do not go by the number on the back of your old belt, manufacturers sizes vary. Even waist measurements of jeans or trousers can be inaccurate. The best way to measure for your new belt is to measure your old belt. Remember, measure from the tip of the buckle to the hole that you use now.
These smooth faced, 3.5cm, 4cm or 4.5cmwide leather belts are made from 4.5mm to 5mm thick cowhide. You can have a tooled coachline marked down both sides of the belt and keepers or they can be completely unmarked. You can choose a slanted, pointed, round or square tip. You can choose from six colours, black, brown, tan, mahogany, green or red. You can choose what buckle you would like and you can have the belt made to the perfect length. When you are sure all your choices are correct you can go on to pay (remember that postage and packing are included in the price). Please allow 3 working days to dispatch your order. Once your order has been dispatched you will again receive an email giving you a tracking number for your parcel.
