Cut the basic three pieces and reinforcment straps that will form the main compartment and lid from top quality, full grain cowhide...
Dye the leather pieces the chosen colour and cover the plywood base with pigskin.
Everything from this point onward is glueing and stitching on the main compartment assembly.
Every item we make is hand stitched using waxed, braided, polyester thread. This style of stitching with two needles is called saddle stitch and is incredibly strong.
The next stage is to cut in the letter box that allows the lid to pass over one of the handles. Another layer of leather is stitched on to keep the letter box rigid. Two tubuler handles are then made and fixed on by way of solid brass rectangles.
